Jinja is a vibrant town located on the shores of Lake Victoria at the source of the River Nile, the longest and most famous river in Africa. The Nile has always been a symbol of life and prosperity for the countries it flows through before reaching Egypt, far north of here.
Jinja has rapidly become the adrenaline capital of East Africa, offering an array of thrilling activities like white water rafting, kayaking, quad biking, bungee jumping, and horse-riding amidst the colonial ruins.
For those who prefer a more relaxed pace, there are natural scenic spots nearby. You can take serene nature walks on the river bank and enjoy boat cruises on Lake Bujagali, where you can admire the gentler side of life.

Jinja Adventures and Exciting Activities
White Water Rafting
Jinja is a popular destination for white water rafting enthusiasts who come here to experience the thrill of navigating through the rapids. There are three different levels of rapids to choose from, catering to different skill levels and preferences. The rapids are classified as class two, three, and five, with class two being suitable for beginners and families, class three for intermediates, and class five for adrenaline junkies and experts.
As part of the tour package, you will be provided with essential safety gear, such as helmets and life jackets, as well as safety training. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to capture your experience through photos.
It's worth noting that this part of the Nile is free from hippos, and the likelihood of encountering a crocodile during your rafting experience is extremely low. In fact, there has not been a crocodile-related incident in over 20 years of rafting in this area.
Kayaking
For white-water kayakers, the Nile is considered one of the best rivers in the world. If you have previous experience but could use a refresher, there are experienced guides and multi-day courses available to help you. Additionally, river surfing is an option for those who are willing to brave the cold waters.
However, for beginners and families, a more relaxed option would be to kayak on the flat water of Lake Bujagali.
Lake Cruises
Lake Bujagali serves as a perfect spot for lunch and sunset cruises. You can enjoy the cruise on two-story cruisers, similar to the safari cruises in Queen Elizabeth National Park on the Kazinga Channel and the Victoria Nile in Murchison Falls National Park.
Some specialized operators also provide full and half-day birding cruises, allowing you to observe the local birdlife from the water. You can witness notable species such as the papyrus gonolek, martial eagle, rock pratincole, white-backed night heron, and crimson-rumped waxbill.
Bungee Jumping
If you're seeking an extra surge of adrenaline, Adrift's Nile High Camp offers a 44-metre bungee jump for the daring or reckless. Bungee jumping is available both during the day and at night, but most people prefer it during the day to fully appreciate the madness of it all. As you plummet down, you can dip your fingers into the Nile before the elastic pulls you to safety.
Adrift adheres to New Zealand safety standards and regularly checks the equipment to ensure its safety.
